Company unveils guide to careers in human resources

Bersin & Associates, a consultancy focused on enterprise learning and talent management, has published the Career Factbook for HR and Learning Professionals.
The work - which aims to help existing professionals as well as those interested in entering the field understand what drives success, job satisfaction, growth and compensation - presents a picture of a profession that is varied and offers a range of career opportunities.
It has found that HR specialists are highly educated. Specifically, a total of 34 percent have bachelors degrees, 51 percent have masters degrees and 7 percent completed doctoral programs.
Job stability seems to be a major feature of HR careers. The survey found that over 40 percent have 15 or more years of experience in the profession, while 66 percent have ten years or more.
In terms of compensation, the average salary ranges from $67,381 for those with two to five years of experience to $115,200 for those with 15 or more years in the business.
In addition to that, managers can expect to earn 7 percent more than non-managers, directors can expect to earn 42 percent more than managers and vice presidents and other senior executives earn 25 to 30 percent more than the previous group.
The study, which is based on data provided by approximately 1,300 industry insiders, also found that HR and learning professionals are highly motivated by a desire to help people and improve their organizations.
