Abbot has been named this year's recipient of the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association's (HBA) Advancement, Commitment and Engagement (ACE) award for its efforts to advance the careers of women in the healthcare industry.
Abbot's Women Leaders in Action (WLA) program was recognized by the HBA for its support of women's leadership and development at the pharmaceutical company.
The program is intended to create more opportunities for employees and foster the development of leadership skills through career development, mentoring and informal networking.
Abbott's program was selected for the award for "the company's strong commitment to leadership in the advancement of women's careers and its recognition of the value of community outreach to the patient population," said Ceci Zak, president of the HBA.
The ACE award aims to "set new standards for corporate initiatives enhancing the roles of women and reaching out to the community," she added.
Obtaining an accredited MBA degree may help those wishing to pursue business careers in the healthcare industry reach managerial positions and increase their earning potential. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, median annual earnings of wage and salary for managers were $85,230 in May 2006. The middle 50 percent earned between $58,230 and $128,580.
