Individuals try 'creative' applications for desired business careers

Updated: Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Some who returned to school for their MBA degree hope to acquire new skills that will make them more competitive in today's job market. However, there are a few candidates who tried to kick-start their business careers in a far more interesting fashion.

A recent survey by Office Team, a professional staffing agency, asked top executives some of the more curious ways in which interviewees tried to make their impression on the company.

Several executives remember job candidates who tried extremely unconventional methods to get their resume to the CEO's desk. One respondent remembers receiving a laminated resume, while another received a baby shoe wrapped in a resume so the candidate could "get his foot in the door."

Another survey participant talked about a present of milk and cookies they received from an interviewee when they were invited in.

Office Team researchers spoke to 250 officials from 1,000 of the more sizeable companies across the United States and Canada. Company executive Robert Hosking explains that while "these tactics might grab an employer's attention they also carry an element of risk."
