Partnership announces new masters degree program in financial risk manageme

Updated: Monday, November 2nd, 2009

The Global Association of Risk Professionals and Tulane University's business school have teamed up to create a graduate program in financial risk management that will prepare its students to take the Financial Risk Manager exam.

Tulane's A.B. Freeman School of Business will offer a one-year Master of Risk Management program, which will integrate Financial Risk Manager exam material into its curriculum.

As part of its Partnership for Risk Education with the Global Association of Risk Professionals, the university will develop a campus chapter of the organization and become a testing site for the Financial Risk Manager exam.

The "rigorous course of study" included in the program is intended to "prepare its graduates well for a career in risk management," said Chris Donohue, managing director and head of the association's research center.

Tulane is now accepting applications for the program, which will begin in the spring semester. Students who are accepted into the program will be required to complete introductory online courses before meeting on campus in January.

Associates and bachelors programs and business may help prepare students for MBA programs and certification exams in risk management. The demand for such financial managers in securities and commodity contracts intermediation, whose earnings averaged $131,730 in May 2006, is expected to grow by 13 percent over the next seven years.
