Business executives selected for Broad Foundation Residency in School Syste

Updated: Monday, August 31st, 2009

In a move that is sure to boost their business career prospects, a total of 36 residents of the Broad Foundation, including graduates of top business schools, have been selected by the Broad Center for the Management of School Systems to help run select public schools and charter school management organizations.

For the next two years, the residents will work full-time at the top levels of urban schools in places like Charleston, South Carolina, Chicago or Denver - to improve financial management practices to ensure all students receive a quality education.

All of the selected candidates have an MBA or other advanced degree and were selected from among 3,000 applicants.

"From bringing in smart financial tracking systems to devising effective ways to support teachers and help schools meet their academic goals, Broad Residents are playing a critical role in helping urban school systems significantly improve operations and outcomes," says Lynn Liao, managing director of The Broad Residency.

Meanwhile, Eli Broad, founder of The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation - a philanthropic organization that aims to advance entrepreneurship for the public good in education, science and the arts - stresses that "school districts and charter management organizations looking for operational efficiencies and academic gains at a large scale now have a pool of incredible management talent from which to draw."

The program is an example of the kind of business careers that are open to those who enroll in MBA programs. Such individuals can expect to earn on average between $73,510 to $171,583, depending on the field, position and years of experience, according to PayScale.com.
