Jobseekers whose resumes boast accredited MBA degrees may be more highly considered for open positions, as executives have become very critical of applicants' qualifications, new survey suggests.

OfficeTeam, a professional staffing service company, has released the results of a recent study that found hiring managers are closely scrutinizing job candidates' resumes.

When researchers asked more than 150 senior-level managers from 1,000 of the country's largest companies how much time they spend going over each resume they receive, the respondents' answers averaged 6.4 minutes per applicant.

Robert Hosking, executive director of OfficeTeam, said these findings indicate "executives are paying extra attention to application materials to avoid costly hiring mistakes."

As a result, jobseekers must ensure their resumes "catch and keep [executives'] interest," Hosking added.
To do so, OfficeTeam suggests prospective employees craft resumes that highlight achievements, include content that is tailored to each employer, use concise language and have been proofread multiple times.

Associates, bachelors and masters programs in business and management may help prospective professionals enhance their resumes to compete for high-level career opportunities.

Average salaries for holders of MBA degrees ranged from $73,510 to $171,583 in 2008, depending on the field, position and years of experience, according to PayScale.com, a research company.
