Harvard Business School rallies against foreclosure

Updated: Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Students in the MBA program at Harvard Business School will have the opportunity to take what they learn in the classroom into the homes of Americans struggling to battle the financial crisis.

The Homeowership Preservation Foundation (HPF) will team up with students to conduct a series of independent field studies intended to curb foreclosures and keep homeowners in their homes.

The field studies will be integrated into the MBA program’s second-year curriculum and will require students to work with HPF representatives to develop new management strategies using specialized marketing, operations and social media methods.

Lindsay Jurist-Rosner, a recent graduate of the business school, and Brian McGinnis, a former member of the corporate strategy team at Lehman Brothers, worked with Professor Peter Tufano to find a way for business students to help curb the effects of the economic downturn and develop this initiative.

Colleen Hernandez, president of the HPF, believes the students will “bring energy, knowledge and ideas that [will] increase [the HPF’s] capacity to serve homeowners.

Representatives from Harvard Business School and HPF met in May at HPF headquarters in Minneapolis to discuss specifics pertaining to the initiative, which is set to begin in the fall semester.
