Employers still struggle to fill positions, survey says
Updated: Thursday, July 2nd, 2009
Manpower, an employment services company, has published a survey which found that as much as 30 percent of employers worldwide have a hard time filling vacant positions.
The company's 2009 Talent Shortage Survey established that the top categories of jobs that are hard to fill have changed little since last year, and include business specialists, such as managers and executives.
Moreover, accounting and finance professionals are also in the top 10 categories of workers for whom demand outstrips supply.
"Despite high levels of unemployment in many markets, this year's talent survey suggests a mismatch between the type of individuals available for work and the specific skills that employers are looking for," Jeffrey A. Joerres, chairman and CEO of Manpower.
He added that the downturn is "masking mega trends such as demographic shifts and underlying talent shortages that are impacting the way companies and individuals view work around the world."
The results of the study validate the view that accredited MBA degrees offered by a range of business schools may be a good option for college students or for current workers who are thinking of switching careers to enhance their job security.
