Babson Survey finds online college enrollment reaches nearly 4 million, 12.

Updated: Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Those seeking to boost their career prospects through education may consider enrolling in an online MBA program as surveys show distance education is gaining popularity.

For example, a study conducted by The Babson Survey Research Group found that 3.9 million students took at least one online course during the fall of 2007, which represented a 12 percent increase over the previous year.

It also found that at 12.9 percent growth rate, online enrollment outpaces the overall higher education enrollment which grows by about 1.2 percent.

However, regardless of the type of degree individuals chose to pursue, "those looking for employment realize that good jobs often require specialized education," says Ralph Greene, an industry insider.

"Those who have jobs want to improve their value to employers and increase their chances of advancement with a training program, certification or degree," he adds.

For those looking for the flexibility of an online degree there are many institutions around the country which offer accredited MBA programs that may lead to jobs paying an average of $73,510 to $171,583, according to PayScale.com.
